The Australian Fairy Tale Society is holding its annual conference in Brisbane, Queensland next month! The theme is Flesh or Fossil – old stories, new reinventions. I will be there giving a talk on the art of the fairy tale retelling, which is one of those things I am actually able to talk about forever. I will be discussing how three different fairy tale retellings by Australian authors subvert, reimagine and recontextualise the original stories, and what it is that keeps driving storytellers to return to the structure of the fairy tale.
